A turned face, an orange cheek.

A simple gesture, yet enough to hold an entire painting.

That unexpected color on the cheekbone was what defined it all.

I was drawn to the angle of the face — three-quarter view, surrendered.

The brushwork built the face in blocks of color, with precision and rhythm.

And in the end, that orange on the cheek held the whole composition together.

ANIME VUOTE

E vestire l’ebbrezza
del tuo martirio
qual nuova culla al canto.
Nera distesa è il mondo,
l’anima vuota più non gioisce
che di ferme irrealtà
e gobbe di stelle.
Sepolto è il mondo,
ma di effimere voglie
eppur vagheggia,
l’onda segata
di sogni impuri
si fa cresta e schiumeggia.
E t’inabissi
d’ali spiegate al volo,
teorie di luce alle tempie
dentro il tuo inferno.
